RAMBAN, Jul 18: Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, on Saturday chaired a meeting to review the arrangements for the celebration of the 80th Independence Day in the district.
The meeting was attended by senior civil and police officers, including SSP Ramban Arun Gupta, SSP Traffic NHW Raja Adil Hamid, ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak, ACR Shokat Hayat Mattoo, SDM Ramsoo Sayed Mazahir Hussain Shah, ACD Sheraz Ahmed, along with officers from various civil departments, Police, and CRPF. SDM Gool and SDM Banihal attended the meeting virtually.
It was decided that the district-level function will be held at the District Police Lines Ground, where the Chief Guest will hoist the National Flag, followed by a march past by contingents of J&K Police, IRP, CRPF, Home Guards, Fire & Emergency Services, and school students.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to ensure that all necessary arrangements are put in place well in advance, including seating, barricading, drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, sanitation, fire safety, security, transport, traffic regulation, medical facilities, ambulance services, and illumination of government buildings.
He further instructed all district heads to remain present at the District Headquarters along with their subordinate staff during the function and ensure the participation of their employees in national functions within their respective jurisdictions.
The DC outlined the celebration plan and emphasized the inclusion of cultural programmes. He directed the Cultural Committee to involve renowned as well as budding local artists to infuse the celebrations with patriotic spirit and enthusiasm.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the event, the Deputy Commissioner constituted various committees, including the Cultural Programme Monitoring Committee, Award Selection Committee, Reception Committee, and other committees to oversee different aspects of the celebrations.
The DC also directed all SDMs to ensure similar arrangements for Independence Day celebrations at the subdivision, tehsil, and institutional levels in their respective jurisdictions.
During the meeting, SSP Ramban briefed the participants on the security arrangements and assured foolproof security for the national event. He also offered valuable suggestions to various departments to make the Independence Day celebrations more vibrant and memorable.
SSP Traffic NHW Raja Adil Hamid presented the traffic management plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement and proper parking arrangements during the event.
Earlier, ADC gave a department-wise presentation on the preparations and outlined the roles and responsibilities of different departments.
It was also decided that a Swachhata Abhiyan will be conducted across the district from August 1 to August 14, 2026. A plantation drive will also be organized on August 14 across the district to promote environmental awareness as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
