JAMMU, Jun 9: A grand traditional Dangal (wrestling competition) was organized at Bhatiyari Block in Dansal, attracting a large number of wrestling enthusiasts, youth and local residents. The event celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Dogra region while promoting the importance of traditional sports and a healthy lifestyle.
The wrestling competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from wrestlers representing different regions. The highlight of the event was the highly anticipated final bout, in which Shiva from Maharashtra displayed remarkable strength, skill and determination to emerge victorious and clinch the championship title.
The event was graced by Nand Kishore, District President, BJP, as the Chief Guest. Among the distinguished guests present were Judge Rishab Sharma, Shiv Kumar Sharma, President of the Wrestling Association, Pappu Lakri, Pankaj Sharma, State Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), and Vikas Gupta, Block President, BJP.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers emphasized that Dangal is an inseparable part of Dogra culture and traditions, symbolizing values such as courage, discipline, dedication, hard work and sportsmanship. They stated that organizing such traditional events helps preserve the cultural identity of the region while inspiring the younger generation to stay connected with their roots.
The speakers also underlined the significant role of sports in realizing the vision of a Nasha-Mukt Bharat. They noted that wrestling and other traditional games provide a constructive platform for youth by promoting physical fitness, mental strength and self-discipline, thereby helping them stay away from the menace of drug abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, Pankaj Sharma, State Secretary, BJYM, said that such sporting events not only strengthen the spirit of youth but also promote social harmony and preserve the glorious legacy of Dogra culture. He added that sports can play a vital role in building a healthy, disciplined and drug-free society.
