JAMMU, Aug 28: A cricket tournament was inaugurated at M.A. Stadium, Jammu, in memory of Late Pt. Sita Ram, with public representatives and social figures paying tribute to his contribution to society and public service.
The opening ceremony was attended by MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi, Congress General Secretary S. Taranjeet Singh Tony, BJP spokesperson Advocate Ankur Sharma, BJYM President Arun Parbhat Singh, political activist Partap Singh Jamwal, Keshav Chopra and tournament organiser Dixit Sharma, among others.
The dignitaries paid floral tributes to Late Pt. Sita Ram Ji and recalled his decades-long commitment to social service. Speakers said he had been actively associated with public welfare since the 1980s and was also associated with the Jan Sangh and the early BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. They highlighted his dedication towards society and said the tournament was a fitting tribute to his legacy.
Following the inaugural ceremony, the tournament got underway with competitive cricket action.
In the first match, Apex Cricket Club faced Telli Cricket Club, which batted first and scored 136 runs for the loss of all 10 wickets. Apex Cricket Club initially lost four wickets early in the chase, but Majid (Ladda) contributed a valuable 32 runs. Sumit Kumar impressed with the ball, claiming four wickets, and was adjudged Player of the Match.
The second match saw Singh Warriors take on Iron Titans. Singh Warriors posted a strong 200 runs for nine wickets after opting to bat first. Iron Titans, however, struggled in the chase and were bowled out for 53 runs. Daman, who scored an impressive 90 runs, was declared Man of the Match.
The tournament aims to combine sporting spirit with a meaningful tribute to the memory and social legacy of Late Pt. Sita Ram Ji.
