JAMMU, Oct 20: Col Shiv Choudhary (Retd) has been unanimously elected as the President of the Jammu Province of Gandhi Global Family (GGF), Jammu & Kashmir, at a meeting held today. The Jammu Province comprises ten districts. He will serve a three-year term and has been authorised to constitute his team and lead the organisation’s activities across the province.
The meeting was attended by prominent members, volunteers and social workers from different walks of life, who expressed their confidence in Col Choudhary’s leadership and vision. The meeting was held in the presence of Dr. S. P. Varma, Padma Shri and President, Gandhi Global Family, J&K.
Col Shiv Choudhary is a veteran with nearly four decades of experience in the Indian Army and the corporate sector. He is widely recognised for his selfless service, integrity, mentoring and commitment to social development. A motivational speaker and mentor, he has been actively engaged in empowering students and youth through knowledge, awareness and leadership.
Over the years, Col Choudhary has contributed to institutional transformation, clean and green initiatives and community development. He has also authored around 130 articles and editorials on issues of social relevance.
During his Army career, as a young Major, Col Choudhary undertook significant rescue and relief efforts during the Bhopal riots in 1992, which received appreciation from the then Governor of Madhya Pradesh, the Human Rights Commission and the media. As Chairman of the Sainik Colony Management Board, Jammu, he subsequently undertook several initiatives aimed at improving civic facilities and the overall environment of the colony.
Through his initiative “Show a Way Forward,” Col Choudhary has interacted with approximately 1.5 lakh students, youth, teachers and professionals across different states of India. His extensive engagement with young people has focused on developing awareness, leadership, responsible citizenship and a positive outlook towards life. He is currently working on a book titled “Living Beyond My Time.”
Gandhi Global Family is a United Nations accredited civil society organisation committed to promoting the ideals and messages of Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr., particularly among the younger generation. The organisation has been actively involved in community development and humanitarian interventions, including during major emergencies such as the 2005 earthquake, 2014 floods, the COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2022) and more recent humanitarian and relief efforts associated with Operation Sindoor and Operation Rahat in 2025.
The election of Col Shiv Choudhary is expected to further strengthen GGF’s outreach and programmes across Jammu Province, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, community engagement, social awareness, leadership development and the promotion of Gandhian values of truth and non-violence.
As Jammu Provincial President, Col Choudhary will work towards expanding the organisation’s network and initiatives across the ten districts of the province while carrying forward its commitment to service, peace, social harmony and inclusive development.
