BUNJWAH, Jun 26: Prominent youth leader of Bunjwah, Choudhary Mohd Aslam, has strongly demanded transparency, accountability, and strict quality monitoring in the ongoing road construction works being executed under various departments in the Bunjwah region.
In a statement issued today, Aslam expressed serious concern over the execution of work on the Dundadi–Patnazi Road under PMGSY Division Kishtwar and the Danoth–Mori Road, Sharekh–Naga Road, and Tanta–Devigol Road under PWD (R&B) Division Kishtwar. He alleged that repeated complaints regarding poor quality and substandard construction practices have surfaced from local residents, raising questions about the effectiveness of monitoring mechanisms.
Aslam stated that on several occasions, videos allegedly showing substandard work have gone viral on social media platforms, drawing widespread public criticism and concern. However, despite the circulation of such evidence and repeated public objections, the concerned authorities have failed to take visible corrective measures.
“It is unfortunate that while the people of Bunjwah continue to struggle for basic infrastructure, reports and visual evidence of poor-quality work are being ignored. The administration appears to be acting as a mute spectator, turning a deaf ear to the genuine grievances of the people,” he said.
He demanded that the District Administration Kishtwar, PMGSY authorities, and PWD (R&B) officials immediately conduct independent technical inspections of all ongoing road projects in the region and make the findings public. He further called for fixing responsibility on contractors and officials found compromising construction standards.
Aslam emphasized that public funds are meant for durable and quality infrastructure and not for works that deteriorate within a short period. He urged the authorities to ensure complete transparency in project execution, regular third-party quality audits, and active involvement of local representatives in monitoring development works.
“The people of Bunjwah deserve roads built to proper engineering standards. Any compromise in quality is a direct injustice to the public and a waste of taxpayers’ money. Accountability must be ensured at every level,” he asserted.
He warned that if the concerns of the people continue to be ignored, residents may be compelled to launch a democratic public movement demanding an inquiry into the execution of these development works.
