DODA, Jul 11: A delegation of the BJP OBC Morcha on Saturday visited the cloudburst-affected areas of Thathri in Doda district, where its members participated in relief and civil restoration work and interacted with affected families to assess the damage caused by the recent natural calamity.
The delegation was led by BJP OBC Morcha District President Munir Sheikh and included Akther Sheikh, Munir Khan, Manan Bhat, and Ghulam Hussain. The team visited several villages in the 52-Doda Assembly Constituency under Mandal Thathri to take stock of the situation and hear the grievances of local residents.
During the visit, the Morcha leaders expressed concern over the large-scale destruction caused by the cloudburst, stating that numerous residential houses, agricultural land, roads, and other public infrastructure had suffered extensive damage, severely affecting the lives and livelihoods of the people. They also participated in civil restoration work and extended assistance to the affected families.
Speaking on the occasion, District President Munir Sheikh said the victims had suffered significant losses and were looking towards the administration for timely relief and rehabilitation. He alleged that despite the gravity of the situation, the National Conference-led government had failed to provide adequate assistance to those affected.
The Morcha leaders further alleged that the NC government and local MLA Mehraj Malik had not responded effectively to the crisis. They claimed that immediate relief measures, restoration of damaged infrastructure, and compensation for affected families had not been provided with the urgency the situation demanded.
BJP OBC Morcha Jammu & Kashmir UT President Braham Jyot Satti also criticised the National Conference government, alleging that its response to the cloudburst had been inadequate. He said that during natural disasters, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure prompt relief, rehabilitation, and continuous support for affected communities.
Satti further alleged that the people of Doda were facing administrative shortcomings and claimed that the local MLA had failed to effectively represent the concerns of the affected residents during the crisis.
He urged the Jammu & Kashmir administration to immediately conduct a comprehensive assessment of the losses, provide adequate compensation to all affected families, restore damaged roads and essential public services on a priority basis, and ensure that no affected household is deprived of relief and rehabilitation.
Reiterating the party’s commitment, Satti said the BJP OBC Morcha would continue to stand with the people of Doda and keep raising their concerns until all affected families receive appropriate relief, rehabilitation, and support.
