Army organises World Environment Day activities across Ramban

RAMBAN, Jun 6: The Indian Army organised a series of activities on the occasion of World Environment Day 2026 across Ramban district to promote environmental awareness, youth engagement and community participation. The events were conducted at GHSS Dalwah, Ramban and at Banihal and Gund in Ramban district.

At GHSS Dalwah, the Indian Army organised a quiz competition in which approximately 107 students participated with great enthusiasm. The competition provided an interactive platform for students to enhance their knowledge of environmental issues, climate change, biodiversity conservation, sustainable practices and the importance of protecting natural resources. The activity encouraged students to adopt environmentally responsible behaviour and become active stakeholders in preserving the environment for future generations.

As part of the same initiative, a large-scale tree plantation drive was organised at Banihal and Gund. The event witnessed participation from school students, teachers, local youth, village residents, representatives of the Department of Social Forestry and Army personnel. A total of 350 saplings of indigenous and environmentally suitable species were planted to increase green cover and strengthen ecological balance in the region.

Army representatives addressed the participants and highlighted the importance of World Environment Day as a global platform for environmental action. They encouraged everyone to preserve forests, reduce pollution, conserve water and adopt sustainable practices in daily life.

The programmes also facilitated meaningful interaction between the Indian Army, school administration, local residents and youth, thereby strengthening community ties. At the conclusion of the activities, participants took a pledge to protect nature, care for the newly planted saplings and spread environmental awareness in their communities. The Indian Army remains committed to organising similar awareness programmes and community development initiatives, contributing towards environmental preservation, responsible citizenship and nation-building.
