POONCH, May 29: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, a three-month campaign launched by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir from April to June 2026 to make the Union Territory drug-free, the Indian Army organised an informative lecture and pledge ceremony at Pir Topa, Poonch, on 28 May 2026.
The event was conducted for school students and local residents to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and motivate the youth to adopt a healthy, disciplined and responsible lifestyle. During the programme, Army representatives delivered an engaging lecture on the physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse, while highlighting the importance of informed choices, education, discipline and community participation.
A total of 34 locals, including 23 men and 11 students, attended the event. All participants solemnly took a Drug-Free Oath, pledging to stay away from drugs and spread awareness within their families and communities. The initiative was well received by the local population, who appreciated the Indian Army’s continued efforts towards social awareness, public welfare and community engagement in the region.
