JAMMU, Oct 13: Senior BJP leader and former Sarpanch Adv Devraj Sharma today strongly criticised the Congress and other INDIA bloc parties over their recent political activities and protests in Delhi, accusing them of misleading young people and escalating political tensions over allegations that, he argued, should be addressed through established democratic and constitutional procedures.
Sharma said political parties have every right to raise public issues and question the functioning of institutions in a democracy, but alleged that the Opposition must exercise responsibility while mobilising young people. He maintained that political disagreements should be resolved through evidence, dialogue and appropriate legal mechanisms rather than through confrontational street politics.
Reacting to the recent demonstrations in the national capital over allegations of electoral irregularities and demands for accountability from the Election Commission, Sharma said the Congress and its INDIA bloc allies should explain their concerns through verifiable facts and pursue remedies available under the Constitution. He alleged that the manner in which the Opposition had mobilised people risked creating confusion among the youth and diverting their attention from education, employment, skill development and other pressing concerns.
Expressing concern over the involvement of young people in political demonstrations, Sharma said the energy and aspirations of the youth should be channelled towards constructive nation-building, innovation, entrepreneurship, sports, education and public service. He alleged that the Congress and its allies were attempting to use the concerns of young people for political mobilisation. He said genuine youth-related issues deserved serious discussion and concrete solutions, adding that political parties should present credible proposals instead of encouraging confrontation.
“The youth of the country deserve opportunities, quality education, employment, skills and a secure future. Their aspirations should not be overshadowed by political battles. Every political party has a responsibility to ensure that young people receive accurate information and are encouraged to participate in democracy peacefully and responsibly,” Sharma said.
Sharma further said that the Opposition had an important role in a parliamentary democracy, including questioning the government, raising public grievances and demanding accountability. However, he maintained that such responsibilities should be discharged through constructive debate, parliamentary proceedings, judicial remedies and peaceful democratic engagement.
He said that criticism of the government or the Election Commission was not, in itself, undemocratic, but alleged that political campaigns should not create unnecessary confusion or undermine confidence in constitutional institutions without evidence.
Sharma appealed to young people to examine political claims carefully, rely on verified information and remain focused on their long-term aspirations. He also urged political leaders across party lines to maintain restraint, respect democratic processes and ensure that public disagreements do not disrupt normal life.
Sharma said that India’s democratic strength depended on the credibility of its institutions, the maturity of its political leadership and the informed participation of its citizens. He called upon the Congress and INDIA bloc parties to pursue their concerns through constitutional means and prioritise constructive engagement over confrontation.
