REASI, Oct 18: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Reasi district, organised a grand “Yashaswini – Yuvati Sammelan” at the DC Office Auditorium in Reasi, with the aim of empowering young women and encouraging their participation in nation-building through the vision of Panch Parivartan and Nari Vimarsh.
The programme, held under the theme “Sashakt Yuvati, Samarth Bharat”, witnessed the participation of hundreds of girl students from schools, colleges and other educational institutions across the district.
The main objective of the sammelan was to make young women aware of their role in building a strong and developed nation and to familiarise them with ABVP’s ideological framework, particularly Panch Parivartan and Nari Vimarsh.
The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana. Girl students presented cultural performances, speeches and poems highlighting the strength, dignity and contribution of women in society.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Geetu Bangotra, CEO, Reasi, encouraged the students to look beyond academic achievements and actively contribute to society and the nation.
She said girls should not limit their aspirations to marks and degrees but should also take an active role in social development and nation-building. An educated girl, she observed, becomes the foundation of a strong family, an aware society and a developed nation. She urged the students to remain fearless and self-reliant and appreciated ABVP’s Yashaswini initiative for reaching girls at the grassroots level.
Kusum Kumari, an award-winning teacher and Guest of Honour, shared her life experiences and emphasised that discipline, character and hard work were the true ornaments of a girl. She encouraged the students to dream big, remain committed to their goals and never compromise on education.
Anjusha Sharma, a renowned singer from Jammu and Kashmir and Guest of Honour, highlighted the importance of women’s dignity and empowerment. She said Indian culture had traditionally accorded women a respected position and stressed the need for Nari Vimarsh to reaffirm that status in contemporary society.
ABVP speaker Akshi Billowria elaborated on the concept of Panch Parivartan, explaining its five dimensions: Samajik Samarasta (social harmony), Kutumb Prabodhan (family awareness), Paryavaran (environmental protection), Swa-bodh (self-awareness) and Nagrik Kartavya (civic duties). She explained how young women could become key drivers of these transformations through their conduct, awareness and participation in society.
She also spoke about Nari Vimarsh, explaining ABVP’s perspective of viewing women as a source of strength and power rather than as weak or helpless.
Isha Sharma, Prant Chhatra Vistarak, ABVP Jammu and Kashmir, and president of the welcome committee, welcomed the guests and presented the vision behind the Yashaswini initiative. She informed the gathering that ABVP had organised Yuvati Sammelans in Jammu Grameen on October 3, Udhampur on October 6, Jammu Mahanagar on October 8, Poonch on October 9, Ramban on October 10, Doda on October 11 and Reasi thereafter.
She said the organisation aimed to reach every district through the initiative, while HER VOICE Sammelans in Kashmir were scheduled to begin from October 17 onwards.
The sammelan concluded with a collective pledge by the participating girls to become Yashaswini—confident, self-reliant and dedicated to nation-building.
Harsh, ABVP Reasi District Convenor; Supriya Satwal, District Girls In-charge; and Sudarshan Dogra, District Organising Secretary, were among those present, along with a large number of ABVP activists and participants.
