AAP leader Gurmeet Baaghi claims party will return to power in Punjab

JAMMU / CHANDIGARH, Sep 23: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and social activist Gurmeet Singh Baaghi claimed that the party would secure another strong mandate in the forthcoming Punjab Assembly elections and form the government for a second consecutive term.

Baaghi said that people in Punjab were responding positively to the policies and development initiatives of the Bhagwant Mann-led government. He highlighted measures relating to daytime electricity supply for farmers, canal water for agricultural fields, closure of toll plazas, free electricity, healthcare, education, sports and youth development.

He also cited the establishment of Aam Aadmi Clinics, improvements in government schools, doorstep delivery of public services and recruitment to government posts as initiatives that, according to him, had benefited residents. He further referred to the Sadak Suraksha Force and other administrative measures introduced by the state government.

Baaghi said the AAP would seek to build on its performance in the 2022 Punjab Assembly election, when it won 92 of the 117 Assembly seats. The Election Commission of India records AAP’s 2022 tally at 92 seats, with the party receiving 42.01 per cent of valid votes.

The next Punjab Assembly election is due before the completion of the present Assembly’s term on March 16, 2027, according to the Election Commission of India.

Baaghi contrasted AAP’s approach with that of the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP, accusing the rival parties of focusing on divisive politics and making promises without sufficient follow-through. These are his political characterisations of the parties and were not independently established in the statement.

He said AAP workers were prepared for the forthcoming electoral contest and described it as a contest between what he called the “politics of work” and the “politics of abuse”. He further claimed that people could identify several AAP initiatives in their areas and expressed confidence that the party would improve upon its 2022 performance.

Baaghi said AAP’s stated focus was on equal development, delivery of public services and addressing the concerns of ordinary citizens. He maintained that the party had avoided divisive politics and concentrated on governance and welfare.

He concluded by claiming that the people of Punjab would once again give AAP a historic mandate and enable it to form the government.
