JAMMU, Jul 15: Under the guidance of Ravinder Nath Watal, Principal District & Sessions Judge/Chairman, DLSA Jammu and supervision of Maleeka Sharma, Civil Judge Sr. Div/Secretary, DLSA Jammu, the 3rd Under Trial Review Committee Meeting for the year 2026 was organized on Wednesday in the Office Chamber of Principal District & Sessions Judge/Chairman, DLSA Jammu.
The meeting was chaired by R.N. Watal (Principal District & Sessions Judge/Chairman, DLSA Jammu) and was attended by Maleeka Sharma (Civil Judge Sr. Div/Secretary, DLSA Jammu), Ansuya Jamwal (JKAS/Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu), Joginder Singh (Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu), Chhabil Singh (Superintendent, Central Jail KotBhalwal, Jammu), Dharminder Singh (Superintendent, District Jail Amphalla, Jammu) and Adv. Anil Sharma (Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Jammu).
During the meeting, cases of Under Trial Prisoners falling under various categories of UTRC were taken up for review. Detailed discussions were held regarding the status of cases, pendency, possibility of release on bail, expeditious disposal, and provision of free legal aid to eligible inmates.
The Committee reviewed cases eligible for release under Section 479 BNSS and other categories as per the guidelines of NALSA. The concerned officers were directed to ensure proper coordination for early disposal of pending cases and to provide all possible legal assistance to the under-trial inmates.
