JAMMU, Jun 12: The Akhil Bhartiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM), Jammu & Kashmir, organized a significant press conference today at the Press Club, Jammu, to express serious concerns regarding the recent Supreme Court judgment related to the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). The conference was presided over by State President Rattan Sharma and attended by State General Secretary Gulshan Raina along with other senior state office-bearers.
Addressing the media, Rattan Sharma urged the Central Government to introduce a suitable Amendment Bill in the forthcoming Parliament session to address the challenges arising from the judgment. He emphasized that the matter is intrinsically linked to the implementation of the Right to Education Act, 2010, and requires a balanced, practical, and just resolution.
Sharma stated that after the enactment of the Act, its provisions were not implemented uniformly within the prescribed timeframe across various States and Union Territories. Consequently, many teachers were appointed according to the eligibility criteria and recruitment rules framed by their respective governments. Penalizing such teachers after years of dedicated service, he asserted, would violate the principles of natural justice, legitimate expectation, and service security.
ABRSM reiterated its commitment to educational quality and the TET framework while strongly advocating legal protection and appropriate relief for serving teachers. The organization also appealed to the Jammu & Kashmir Government to coordinate with the Central Government to find an equitable solution.
The Mahasangh announced that on 18 June it will submit memorandums through Deputy Commissioners across district headquarters to the Prime Minister and Union Education Minister. It further warned that if the issue remains unresolved, a nationwide awareness and agitation campaign may be launched.
The conference was attended by State Adhikaries Rakesh Kumar, Gurdeep Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Pawan Sharma, Ved Parkash, and other prominent members of the organization.
