IIT Jammu introduces young minds to engineering through interactive SEED initiative

JAMMU, Jun 10: The Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Centre (I2EDC), IIT Jammu, successfully organized a one-day SEED Programme-Student Enrichment through Engineering and Design for 26 students from IDPS Jammu. The students were accompanied by their teachers, Ms. Arshdeep Kour and Ms. Satvir Kour.

The programme aimed to provide early exposure to engineering concepts while fostering creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills among school students through experiential learning.

During the session, students were introduced to the fundamentals of RC car engineering. Key components such as wheels, chassis, Arduino Uno, motor driver, battery, Bluetooth module, jumper wires, and other electronics were explained in a student-friendly and engaging manner by Mr. Mohammad Israil, Officer In-Charge, I2EDC, IIT Jammu.

A major highlight of the programme was the hands-on activity, where students closely observed an RC car, followed by disassembling and reassembling it independently. This exercise enabled them to understand the working of mechanical and electronic components in a practical setting.

The session also provided insights into the evolution of transportation, tracing the journey of wheels from early applications such as pottery-making and chariots to modern-day cycles, automobiles, trains, and high-speed transportation systems. The interactive format of the programme significantly enhanced students’ analytical thinking and curiosity.

The training programme was supported by Professor In-Charge, I2EDC, along with Mr. Namrit Bhardwaj, Mr. Sahil Sharma, and Mrs. Priyanka Manhas.

The programme concluded with a certificate and badge distribution ceremony, recognizing the enthusiastic participation of the students and marking their first step into the world of engineering design and innovation. Six outstanding students were awarded Level 02 badges (Young Tinkerer) for their excellent performance.

IIT Jammu continues to actively engage in outreach initiatives aimed at nurturing young minds and inspiring the next generation of innovators and engineers.
