Purushottama (Kamala) Ekadashi Vrat on June 11: Mahant Rohit Shastri

JAMMU, Jun 7: Purushottama (Kamala) Ekadashi, one of the most sacred observances in the Hindu calendar, will be observed on Thursday, June 11, 2026, according to the Hindu Panchang. The announcement was made by Mahant Rohit Shastri, Jyotishacharya and Head of Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan Trust.

Mahant Rohit Shastri stated that the Ekadashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the Adhik (Second) Jyeshtha month will commence at 12:58 AM on June 10 and conclude at 10:37 PM on June 11. As per the Udaya Tithi principle, the fast will be observed on June 11.

He explained that there are generally 24 Ekadashis in a year. However, during Adhik Maas, which occurs approximately once every three years, the number rises to 26. Since this Ekadashi falls during Purushottam Maas, it is known as Purushottama Ekadashi and is also referred to as Kamala Ekadashi and Padmini Ekadashi.

According to Hindu scriptures, observing this sacred fast with devotion is believed to bring immense spiritual merit. Married couples seeking progeny are said to receive the blessings of virtuous and worthy children through sincere observance of the vrat. Mahant Shastri noted that the merits gained from Ekadashi fasting are considered greater than those obtained through major sacrifices, pilgrimages, penance and charitable acts.

He emphasized that devotees should maintain purity in thoughts, speech and actions while observing the fast. Charity performed on this day, including donations of fruits, clothes, sweets, money and essential items to Brahmins and the needy, is believed to remove accumulated sins and lead the devotee towards spiritual upliftment.

Special worship of Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva is recommended on this occasion. Devotees are advised to perform Lakshmi-Narayana Puja, recite or listen to the Ekadashi Vrat Katha, chant the sacred mantra “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” 108 times and participate in aarti.

Mahant Shastri further highlighted that Ekadashi fasting not only holds religious significance but is also considered beneficial for mental peace, self-discipline and physical well-being. He said that sincere worship of Lakshmi-Narayana during Adhik Maas is believed to bring divine blessings and pave the way towards Vaikuntha.

He also advised devotees to avoid tamasic food, intoxicants, violence, negative thoughts and activities such as cutting hair or nails during the fast. The vrat concludes with Parana on Dwadashi Tithi, followed by charity and feeding of the needy.

Mahant Shastri urged devotees to observe the sacred day with devotion, discipline and faith to attain spiritual growth and divine grace.
