SRINAGAR, Oct 28 (Agencies): The Jammu and Kashmir  Government has directed all departments and government organisations to facilitate the installation of upgraded cyber security systems on computers and other devices connected to the National Informatics Centre Network (NICNET) and the Jammu and Kashmir State Wide Area Network (JKSWAN).

The General Administration Department (GAD) issued the instructions through Circular No. 25-JK(GAD) of 2026, dated October 28, citing growing cyber security threats to government IT infrastructure and the approaching expiry of licence support for existing security solutions.

Under the directive, upgraded versions of Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) systems will be deployed in phases across government departments and organisations.

According to the circular, the upgraded solutions have been procured by NIC Headquarters to maintain uninterrupted security services and improve protection against emerging cyber threats. The systems are now ready for deployment.

NIC cyber security personnel, designated as “Cyber Warriors”, will visit the concerned offices to install the upgraded solutions on all devices connected to NICNET and JKSWAN.

The GAD has instructed Administrative Secretaries, Heads of Departments, public sector undertakings and corporations to communicate the directions to all officers and officials under their administrative control and ensure full cooperation with the NIC teams during installation.

The circular highlights the role of UEM and EDR systems in strengthening the government’s cyber security framework through centralised management of devices, monitoring compliance and vulnerabilities, early detection of cyber threats and timely response to security incidents.

It stresses the importance of deploying these solutions on devices connected to NICNET and JKSWAN, which form part of the government’s IT infrastructure.

The latest instructions follow Circular No. 12-JK(GAD) of 2025, dated May 21, 2025, which directed government departments and organisations to follow prescribed cyber security practices, discontinue unauthorised digital assets and comply with established IT governance protocols.

The fresh directive reinforces the administration’s emphasis on stronger cyber security safeguards and the secure and accountable use of government IT systems.
