Manjit Singh congratulates new Ministers, calls for accountability and people-centric governance in J&K

Says Cabinet reshuffle must translate into tangible results, fulfil aspirations of J&K

JAMMU, Oct 27: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) Jammu Province President Manjit Singh on Tuesday congratulated the newly inducted ministers in the Omar Abdullah-led government following their swearing-in, while also extending his best wishes to the ministers who have retained their positions.

Manjit Singh said the formation of a reconstituted Council of Ministers presents an opportunity for the government to renew its commitment to public welfare, strengthen administrative accountability and address the pressing concerns of people across Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasised that assuming ministerial office brings considerable responsibility, and the real test of the ministers would lie in their ability to translate promises and policy announcements into tangible improvements in people’s lives.

Manjit Singh said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have high expectations from the elected government and are looking for concrete action on issues affecting their everyday lives, including unemployment, inflation, development of basic infrastructure, access to quality healthcare and education, regularisation of eligible daily wagers, and effective delivery of welfare schemes.

He stressed that the newly inducted ministers must approach their responsibilities with seriousness, transparency and a clear focus on resolving public grievances rather than allowing administrative delays to undermine people’s confidence.

“Ministerial positions are not merely positions of authority; they carry a solemn responsibility towards the people. Those who have taken the oath today, as well as those who have been entrusted with continuing responsibilities, must work with dedication and accountability to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

The JKAP leader underscored the need for equitable development across both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions, asserting that regional aspirations must receive due consideration in policymaking and the implementation of development projects.

He said remote, rural and border areas require sustained attention, particularly in matters concerning road connectivity, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure, drinking water, electricity supply and employment opportunities.

Manjit Singh maintained that development must be inclusive and should not remain confined to major towns or selected areas. Every district, irrespective of its geographical location or political representation, deserves fair attention and access to essential public services. He also called for greater coordination between departments and field-level officials to ensure that projects are completed within stipulated timelines and that public funds deliver measurable benefits.

Expressing concern over the challenges confronting unemployed youth and workers awaiting resolution of their long-pending demands, Manjit Singh urged the government to give priority to employment generation, transparent recruitment and a time-bound approach to addressing the concerns of daily wagers and other eligible categories of workers.

Singh said young people need meaningful opportunities to build secure futures in Jammu and Kashmir, while workers who have served public institutions for years deserve a fair and transparent consideration of their genuine grievances in accordance with applicable rules. He further stressed that economic opportunities, support for small businesses and the revival of local economic activity are essential to improving household incomes and strengthening public confidence.

Manjit Singh said the Cabinet reshuffle should be viewed as an opportunity to improve governance rather than merely a change in the composition of the government. He called upon the ministers to maintain regular public outreach, listen to people’s grievances, review departmental performance and ensure that decisions taken at the administrative level reach the intended beneficiaries. He added that people expect responsive governance, transparent decision-making and visible progress on issues that directly affect their lives.

“People judge a government not simply by the announcements it makes, but by the results it delivers. The ministers must demonstrate through their performance that public concerns remain at the centre of governance,” he said. Concluding his message, Manjit Singh reiterated his congratulations to all the newly inducted ministers and those who have retained their responsibilities, expressing hope that the reconstituted Cabinet would work sincerely towards peace, prosperity, equitable development and the welfare of every section of society in Jammu and Kashmir.
