JAMMU, Oct 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees, Pensioners and Senior Citizens United Front (JKEPSCUF) on Sunday staged a protest against the alleged misbehaviour, personal insults and public humiliation of Deenish Wani, a senior JKAS officer of the 2015 batch, allegedly by Ranjan, Administrative Secretary, Labour and Employment Department.
The protest was held outside the Press Club in Jammu, where representatives of the Front strongly condemned the incident and demanded an immediate apology from the officer concerned.
According to the Front, the incident occurred during an official meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar on October 16, 2026. The meeting was attended by departmental officers, including Ms. Wani, who participated virtually.
Expressing concern over the alleged conduct, JKEPSCUF described the incident as unacceptable and said that dignity, mutual respect and professional conduct must be maintained within the administrative system.
The Front demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter under the supervision of a sitting or retired Supreme Court judge. It also sought appropriate action under the applicable Civil Service Regulations against the officer concerned.
The organisation further appealed to the Chief Minister and the Lieutenant Governor-led administration to take immediate cognisance of the matter and consider removing the officer from his present position. It also demanded that he be transferred outside the Union Territory.
Extending its support to Deenish Wani, the Front said that the dignity and self-respect of government employees must be protected and that allegations of misconduct should be investigated fairly and transparently.
The protesters warned that failure to take appropriate action could compel the organisation to intensify its agitation. They threatened further protests outside the offices of the Chief Minister and the Lieutenant Governor, as well as at district and provincial headquarters across Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest was led by Front president Babu Hussain Malik and attended by several senior trade union leaders, including Yash Paul Sharma, Madan Sangral, Mahjabeen, Kamla Sharma, Sewa Ram Rathore, Meenakshi Sharma, Ramesh Sharma, Vijay Sharma, Mohan Kumar, Amarjeet Singh, Rajinder Singh, Jyoti Prakash, Mohinder Kumar and Prem Pal, among others.
The Front reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the dignity, rights and interests of government employees, pensioners and senior citizens across Jammu and Kashmir.
