RAMBAN, Oct 18 (Agencies): A worker associated with a highway construction company was killed and a truck conductor injured after a truck ran over the worker near Seri on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Azam (30), son of Showkat Ali, a resident of Bonzwa, Kishtwar. The injured truck conductor was identified as Mohammad Irfan, son of Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Kupwara.
According to reports, a truck had broken down on the highway last night. Mohammad Azam was reportedly engaged in removing the faulty vehicle when another truck ran over him, leaving him critically injured.
Soon after the incident, locals, police personnel and Civil Quick Response Team (QRT) Ramban volunteers rushed to the spot and shifted both men to District Hospital Ramban, where doctors declared Azam brought dead.
Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
