Indian Yoga Association holds 4th Session of 40-day countdown to International Yoga Day

JAMMU, May 31: The Jammu Chapter of the Indian Yoga Association (IYA) organized the fourth session of its 40-day Countdown Programme to International Yoga Day 2026 at Rana Rajinder Singh Park, Rehari, with enthusiastic participation from yoga practitioners and wellness enthusiasts.

The programme was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Shreyansh Kumar Jain, State Chairman, Indian Yoga Association, J&K Chapter, while Ashok Gupta, General Secretary, IYA, presided over the event. The proceedings were conducted by Sudha Chander Sharma, Senior Vice President, IYA, who welcomed the participants and introduced the dignitaries present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Ashok Gupta highlighted the objectives, activities and achievements of the Indian Yoga Association. He emphasized the importance of yoga as a holistic way of life and elaborated on the significance of the theme of the session. He also conducted an interactive Hasya Yoga (Laughter Yoga) session, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere among participants. Gupta further explained the principles of Ashtanga Yoga and its eight-fold path for achieving physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Dr. Shreyansh Kumar Jain led a comprehensive yoga session comprising Yogasanas, Pranayama, Meditation and Vedic Prayer in accordance with the protocol prescribed by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. He stressed that regular yoga practice is one of the most effective ways to maintain physical fitness, mental clarity, emotional balance and spiritual wellness.

During his address, Dr. Jain shared valuable health and wellness tips aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle. He encouraged participants to adopt a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, maintain adequate hydration, engage in regular physical activity, practice yoga and meditation daily, ensure sufficient sleep and avoid tobacco, alcohol and processed foods. He also highlighted the importance of stress management, personal hygiene, regular health check-ups, spending time in nature, cultivating positive thinking, nurturing social relationships and practicing gratitude.

Dr. Jain emphasized that preventive healthcare through healthy lifestyle choices remains the most effective approach to achieving long-term wellness and reducing the risk of lifestyle-related diseases.

Narinder Wadhera also actively participated in the programme and demonstrated various Yogasanas and Pranayama techniques, inspiring participants to make yoga an integral part of their daily routine.

At the conclusion of the programme, Shri Subhash Chander Sharma, a senior member of the Indian Yoga Association, presented the vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, yoga practitioners and participants for their enthusiastic involvement and support in making the event a success.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge to continue promoting the benefits of yoga and encouraging wider public participation in the upcoming celebrations of International Yoga Day 2026.
