Devender Seth organizes grand Langar at Utterbehni on Shani Amavasya

UTTERBEHNI, Oct 10: Renowned social and political activist Devender Seth today organised a grand Langar at the sacred pilgrimage site of Utterbehni to mark the auspicious occasion of Shani Amavasya.

The programme also coincided with the concluding day of the fortnight-long Sharad period dedicated to remembering and paying homage to departed ancestors.

The religious and community service initiative reflected the spirit of devotion, charity, compassion and social responsibility deeply rooted in Indian cultural traditions. By organising the Langar on this significant occasion, Seth sought to bring people together through sewa and reinforce the importance of helping others while honouring the memory of departed family members and ancestors.

A large number of devotees and visitors arriving at the sacred site availed themselves of the Langar, which was organised with the objective of serving people irrespective of their social or economic background. The initiative highlighted the enduring tradition of community kitchens, where food is offered as an expression of devotion and humanity.

The occasion held additional significance as it coincided with the final day of the Sharad period, during which families traditionally remember their departed ancestors and perform religious observances in their honour.

As part of these traditions, families offer prayers and arrange food for Brahmins as a mark of respect and remembrance for their ancestors. Such observances reflect the cultural belief that remembering one’s forefathers is an important responsibility and a way of maintaining a spiritual connection between generations.

The coincidence of Shani Amavasya and the concluding day of the Sharad period added religious significance to the occasion, making the Langar a meaningful expression of faith, remembrance and service to humanity.

Through the initiative, Devender Seth highlighted the importance of preserving religious traditions while promoting the values of compassion, generosity and collective welfare.

His efforts reflected the principle that service to humanity is an essential expression of devotion. Organising a Langar at a prominent pilgrimage destination also provided an opportunity to strengthen community bonds and encourage people to contribute towards social and religious activities.

The programme underscored the continuing relevance of traditional practices that bring people together, foster mutual respect and encourage a spirit of giving.

The grand Langar at Utterbehni thus emerged as a meaningful observance of Shani Amavasya and the concluding day of Sharad, combining religious devotion with the timeless message of selfless service, respect for ancestors and concern for fellow human beings.
