DODA, Sep 28: Like other parts of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, World Rabies Week, observed from September 22 to 28, 2026, was also observed across District Doda by the Health Department Doda through various awareness activities in all Medical Blocks.

The week-long programme was conducted under the guidance of CMO Doda Dr. Vinod Sharma and under the supervision of the respective Block Medical Officers (BMOs).

During the observance, a series of awareness programmes and educational activities were organised across all Medical Blocks to sensitise the public about rabies prevention, responsible pet ownership, the importance of timely wound management following animal bites, and the need for prompt medical attention and post-exposure prophylaxis.

Healthcare staff actively participated in the programmes and disseminated key messages regarding rabies prevention and control, with special emphasis on seeking immediate medical care after an animal bite and completing the recommended vaccination schedule.

The week-long observance provided an important platform to strengthen community awareness regarding rabies prevention and control. The Health Department emphasised the need for responsible pet ownership, timely vaccination of animals, immediate first aid following animal bites and prompt reporting to healthcare facilities. Health workers were also encouraged to continue spreading awareness at the community level so that preventable deaths due to rabies can be avoided.
