BUNJWAH, Sep 26: A solemn tribute was paid to Shaurya Chakra awardee SWR Varinder Kumar on his Shaheed Diwas with the dedication of a newly constructed main gate at SWR Varinder Kumar Shaurya Chakra Government Higher Secondary School, Binoon, in his memory.
The ceremony was attended by Colonel Kishan Deep Thakur, Commanding Officer, 26 Rashtriya Rifles; Naib Tehsildar Bunjwah Naseer Ahmad; Major, 26 RR Alpha Company Patnazi; the parents of SWR Varinder Kumar, besides teaching and non-teaching staff, students, prominent citizens and other distinguished guests.
The mother of the Shaheed formally inaugurated the main gate in the presence of the gathering.
Addressing the students, Col Kishan Deep Thakur paid tribute to SWR Varinder Kumar and recalled his supreme sacrifice while fighting terrorists in Rajouri in 2007. He said the soldier’s courage and dedication remain a source of pride for Bunjwah and should continue to inspire the younger generation.
The Army officer urged students to draw inspiration from the life and service of the Shaheed and uphold the values of patriotism, courage, discipline and dedication. He also emphasised that remembering the sacrifices of soldiers carries a responsibility to preserve and pass on the ideals for which they served the nation.
The construction and dedication of the main gate was appreciated by the school community and local residents. They expressed gratitude to 26 Rashtriya Rifles and Col Kishan Deep Thakur for honouring the martyr at his native place and educational institution.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Bihari Lal Sharma, father of SWR Varinder Kumar, said the newly dedicated gate would serve as a permanent reminder of his son’s sacrifice and inspire generations of students.
The family also expressed gratitude to the Army, school authorities, staff, students and all guests for helping preserve the memory of Varinder Kumar and ensuring that his service and sacrifice continue to be remembered.
The ceremony concluded with a solemn tribute to SWR Varinder Kumar, Shaurya Chakra, whose sacrifice remains a significant part of the local community’s memory and continues to inspire students and residents of Bunjwah.
