DODA, Sep 3: Under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI), and as part of the ongoing 41st National Fortnight on Eye Donation, a series of awareness programmes were organized across various health institutions of District Doda to sensitize the public about the importance of eye donation.
The programmes were conducted under the guidance of Chief Medical Officer Doda, Dr. Vinod Sharma, and under the supervision of the concerned Block Medical Officers (BMOs).
During the awareness programmes, healthcare workers educated the public about the significance of eye donation and encouraged people to come forward and pledge their eyes after death. The participants were informed that eye donation is a noble act through which a person can help restore the gift of sight to someone suffering from corneal blindness.
Health teams also highlighted various misconceptions and myths associated with eye donation and emphasized that the process is safe, voluntary and carried out only after death, with due respect and dignity.
The participants were urged to spread awareness about eye donation among their families, friends and communities and motivate eligible individuals to take a pledge for this noble cause.
The Health Department reiterated its commitment towards strengthening community awareness and promoting eye health and vision-related services across the district.
