JAMMU, Sep 2: The Department of Lifelong Learning (DLL), Employment Information-cum-Advisory Bureau (EIAB), University of Jammu, in collaboration with Government Degree College (GDC), Purmandal, organised a one-day career counselling workshop on “Self-Employment and Careers in Environmental Sciences” today at the college.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Priyanka Sharma, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, and Prof. Indu Khajuria, Principal, GDC Purmandal.
In her welcome address, Prof. Indu Khajuria, highlighted the significance of career-oriented programmes in helping students make informed and meaningful career choices. She appreciated the efforts of the Career Counselling Cell in organising such workshops and encouraged the students to actively participate in these initiatives.
In her inaugural address, Prof. Priyanka Sharma emphasised the importance of equipping students with knowledge, skills and an entrepreneurial mindset to meet the evolving demands of the employment landscape. She encouraged the students to explore diverse career pathways, including self-employment and emerging interdisciplinary fields, and urged them to make effective use of the guidance and resources available to them.
The workshop featured Dr. Harleen Kour, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, and Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu, as resource persons.Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, EIAB, DLL, University of Jammu, coordinated the workshop.
During her presentation, Dr. Harleen Kour apprised the students with wide range of self-employment opportunities available under the New India vision. She also sensitised the students about various Government schemes and initiatives. She also encouraged them to explore these opportunities and develop the confidence to become job creators rather than job seekers.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, in his presentation, provided the students with valuable insights into career opportunities in Environmental Sciences. He discussed the growing relevance of environmental studies in the context of climate change, sustainable development, environmental protection and natural resource management.
Prof. Shahima Akhtar, Convenor, Career Counselling Cell, GDC Purmandal conducted the programme and apprised the gathering about the various career guidance and counselling initiatives being undertaken by the college. The faculty members of the college along with 70 students attended the programme.
The Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Shahima Akhtar. The sessions were interactive and engaging, with students actively participating in discussions and seeking clarification regarding career options and self- employment opportunities.
