JAMMU, Aug 28: Senior BJP leader and former Sarpanch Adv. Devraj Sharma has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that his statements during the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign are misleading the country’s youth and asserting that his claims will now be answered through facts, documents and evidence.
Referring to the website ‘Jhooth Ki Goonj’, which claims to fact-check statements attributed to Rahul Gandhi during his recent programmes, Sharma described the platform as a “nemesis” to Gandhi’s campaign and said it was systematically examining his assertions and placing counter-information before the public.
“No matter how much Rahul Gandhi, the flag-bearer of lies fueled by frustration and envy towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, continues to spread falsehoods, every lie is now being exposed through facts. The Jhooth Ki Goonj website is one by one exposing the reality of Gandhi’s claims,” Adv. Sharma said.
Sharma alleged that Gandhi’s political narrative was increasingly influenced by what he termed “frustration and envy” towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and accused the Congress leader of repeatedly making statements without adequately substantiating them with facts.
The BJP leader said that while criticism of the government and the Prime Minister is a legitimate part of democratic politics, public claims should be subjected to factual verification. He maintained that this is particularly important when political leaders address young people, as inaccurate or misleading information can influence public understanding of important national issues.
Highlighting the role of Jhooth Ki Goonj, Sharma said the website was examining Rahul Gandhi’s claims individually and attempting to assess them through documented facts and available sources.“Rahul Gandhi may continue to spread his narrative, but now every claim will be met with facts and evidence. ‘Jhooth Ki Goonj’ is systematically examining Rahul Gandhi’s claims and exposing them, one by one, with documented facts and sources,” he said.
According to Sharma, the website has examined around 40 claims made during Gandhi’s last four programmes, which he alleged were either false or misleading. He said that such claims should be evaluated on the basis of documentary evidence rather than political rhetoric.Sharma further claimed that the response represented growing frustration among sections of the youth towards what he described as repeated misleading statements by the Congress leader.
“The country’s youth is so irritated and angry with the series of lies Rahul Gandhi is spreading that today the country’s youth have launched ‘Jhooth Ki Goonj’,” he said.He asserted that the initiative represented the voice of what he called the “real youth of India”—young people on the ground who, according to him, want political discourse to be based on facts rather than political messaging or public-relations campaigns.
Adv. Sharma said the increasing use of digital platforms had fundamentally changed the way political claims are consumed and scrutinised. According to him, statements made at public meetings can reach millions within minutes, making factual verification increasingly important.He urged young people to question political claims, examine supporting documents and independently verify information before accepting or circulating it on social media.
“Democracy becomes stronger when citizens are informed and capable of distinguishing between political rhetoric and verifiable facts,” Sharma said.He also referred to BJP national spokesperson Prem Shukla, who, according to Sharma, said that Jhooth Ki Goonj was exposing Rahul Gandhi’s claims one by one.Sharma maintained that the platform’s fact-checking exercise should encourage a broader culture of accountability in public life, where political leaders are expected to substantiate serious allegations and claims with credible evidence.
He said that the BJP would continue to place facts before the people and particularly urged the younger generation to remain alert against what he described as politically motivated misinformation.The senior BJP leader concluded that ‘Jhooth Ki Goonj’ had brought a new dimension to the political debate by challenging claims through documentary evidence and said that in a democracy, “facts must ultimately prevail over political rhetoric.”
