POONCH, Aug 25: In celebration of National Sports Day, honoring the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, a grand nationwide event will be held on August 27th under the Khelo India Samwad program to promote youth participation, sports development, and nation-building.
Organized by the Department of Youth Affairs via Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), the flagship initiative features the “Yuva Connect” program reaching two colleges per district—specifically highlighted in Poonch district at GDC poonch and GDC Mandi—connecting over 8 lakh young participants across 1,600 locations. Attendees are scheduled to gather by 10:00 AM for a live virtual address by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will highlight the 12-year transformation of India’s sports ecosystem, followed by direct interactions with local youth, NSS volunteers, and MY Bharat members.
The program features dedicated engagement between youth and local sports icons to discuss the ongoing expansion of national sports infrastructure. The event culminates in a 15-minute “Youth Samvaad” centered around four strategic pillars: upgrading grassroots sports facilities and coaching, nurturing athletic talent for the 2036 Olympics through scientific development, enhancing youth participation in governance, and driving empowerment for Viksit Bharat through future-ready skills and volunteering.
To ensure active youth engagement, participant suggestions will be collected digitally on-site via QR codes alongside live participation in the VBYLD Quiz.
