DODA, Aug 23: The Coordination Committee of all New Government Medical Colleges of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir has decided to suspend its indefinite peaceful protest till September 30, 2026, in view of positive assurances received from the government regarding the long-pending finalisation of the Recruitment Rules.

The Coordination Committee welcomed the recent developments concerning the Recruitment Rules and termed the assurances received from the authorities as an encouraging step towards resolving the issue.

The members said that the Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, has assured them that the Recruitment Rules would be finalised within one month. They also referred to a meeting held recently between representatives of Government Medical Colleges Anantnag and Baramulla and the Health Minister, which they said concluded on a positive note. During the meeting, an assurance was reportedly given that the Recruitment Rules would be finalised by September 30, 2026.

The members reiterated that they are an integral part of the healthcare system and that patient care remains their foremost priority. They said that throughout their ongoing struggle, they remained conscious of their responsibilities towards patients and the healthcare system and made every effort to raise their genuine and long-pending concerns without compromising patient care.

The Coordination Committee also expressed gratitude to colleagues, supporters and members of the healthcare fraternity for their unity, patience, cooperation and continued support during the course of the agitation.

The members said that the progress achieved so far was not the result of any individual effort but reflected the collective strength, solidarity and perseverance of employees across the new government medical colleges.

In view of the positive assurances received, the Coordination Committee decided to suspend the indefinite peaceful protest up to September 30, rather than call off the agitation permanently. During this period, the members will closely monitor the progress of the Recruitment Rules file and remain updated about further developments.

The Committee made it clear that the struggle has only been paused and not withdrawn, in view of the assurances given by the authorities. It expressed hope that the Recruitment Rules would be finalised within the stipulated timeframe.

The members further stated that if the Recruitment Rules are not finalised by September 30, 2026, they will collectively decide the future course of action after consultations with their colleagues.
