JAMMU, Aug 23: In response to heavy rainfall experienced across Jammu city during the early morning hours on Sunday, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) promptly mobilised men and machinery, including Quick Response Teams (QRTs), to address waterlogging reported at several locations.

Areas including Rajinder Nagar, Muthi, Patta Bohri, Lakhdata Bazar and Bantalab witnessed water accumulation following the intense rainfall. In Rajinder Nagar and Patta Bohri, where Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED) works are currently underway, temporary storage of construction material in the vicinity contributed to the accumulation of rainwater.

Following complaints from the public, JMC teams immediately reached the affected locations and took necessary measures to clear the accumulated water. The waterlogging in these areas was reportedly cleared within one hour, restoring normal conditions.

The Corporation stated that the ongoing nallah construction works under Flood SSASCI are expected to be completed in the coming months and will provide a permanent solution to the drainage-related issues in the affected areas.

At a location near Pawan Ice Cream, JMC teams worked in coordination with officials of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). During the operation, it was observed that a side drain at the NHIDCL worksite had been blocked by construction material, resulting in water accumulation.

The blockage was removed through coordinated efforts and dewatering operations were subsequently carried out, leading to the prompt restoration of normal conditions.

The JMC said it remains committed to ensuring public convenience and safety and is closely monitoring vulnerable locations across the city during the ongoing monsoon season.

The Corporation has urged citizens to report civic issues, particularly waterlogging and drainage-related problems, so that necessary action can be taken promptly.
