JAMMU, Aug 22: The Inter-Zonal District-Level Competition in Chess for Under-14 and Under-19 Girls concluded today at the Scout and Guide Hall, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, while the Inter-Zonal District-Level Basketball Competition for Under-14 and Under-17 Boys commenced at M.A. Stadium, Jammu.
The competitions provided a platform for young players from different zones of District Jammu to showcase their sporting talent, compete with determination and gain valuable competitive experience. Around 300 students participated in the competitions held today.
The events are being organised under the patronage of Director General, Youth Services and Sports, J&K UT, Anuradha Gupta, under the guidance of Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, Jammu, Inderjeet Singh, and the overall supervision of DYSSO Jammu, Sukhdev Raj Sharma.
Addressing the participants, DYSSO Jammu appreciated their enthusiasm and encouraged them to play with team spirit, dedication and discipline. He advised the young competitors to maintain sportsmanship and give their best during the competitions. He also distributed medals and certificates among the winners and runners-up.
The competitions are being conducted by experienced officials of the department, including Harsimran Singh, Convener, along with Sunil Abrol, Amit Kalsi, Nitin Sethi, Priya Devi, Rajesh Bandral, Vaneet Pangotra, Manjeet Kour and other officials.
In the Under-14 Boys Basketball category, Zone Gandhinagar defeated Zone Miran Sahib by 10-2, while Zone Jammu defeated Zone Dansal by 21-6. In another match, Zone Gandhinagar defeated Zone Satwari by 6-2.
In the Under-17 Boys Basketball category, Zone Miran Sahib defeated Zone Marh by 14-2, while Zone Gandhinagar defeated Zone Bhalwal by 26-17.
In the Under-14 Girls Chess final round, Alankrita Sharma of Zone Jammu defeated Mayuri of Zone Satwari. Manvi of Zone Miran Sahib defeated Divya of Zone Jammu, while Aizah Aamir of Zone Gandhinagar defeated Seerat of Zone Miran Sahib. Kanisha Sawhney of Zone Jammu defeated Shrashthi of Zone Satwari, and Medhavi Sharma of Zone Bhalwal defeated Avantika of Zone Jammu.
In the Under-19 Girls Chess final round, Manikarnika of Zone Bhalwal defeated Shabnam of Zone Jammu. Soumya of Zone Gandhinagar defeated Harshita of Zone Bhalwal, while Arya Talwar of Zone Jammu defeated Anaika of Zone Bhalwal. In another match, Mishti Sharma of Zone Bhalwal defeated Aketa of Zone Jammu.
The competitions highlighted the enthusiasm and competitive spirit of young players from various zones of District Jammu and provided them with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills while learning the values of discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.
