RAMNAGAR, Aug 22: Government Degree College (GDC) Ramnagar organised a 5-Km Running Challenge as part of the Fitness Challenge Competition under National Sports Day, under the patronage of Principal Prof. Daljeet Singh Manhas. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 70 students and faculty members, reflecting the growing interest in fitness and sports activities among the college community.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Director of Physical Education and Sports, who welcomed the participants, faculty members and officials. He highlighted the importance of physical fitness, discipline and regular participation in sports and physical activities for maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Prof. Daljeet Singh Manhas appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students and faculty members in the running challenge. He emphasised that physical fitness is an integral part of a healthy and productive life and encouraged students to make sports and regular exercise an essential part of their daily routine. He also lauded the Physical Education and Sports Department and all members of the college for their efforts in promoting the spirit of fitness and sportsmanship.
The competition was conducted in three categories—Boys, Girls and Faculty Members. In the Boys Category, Manjeet Singh secured the Gold medal, followed by Chaman Lal with Silver and Arjun Sharma with Bronze. In the Girls Category, Radha won Gold, Kashish secured Silver and Sunali Sharma won Bronze. Among Faculty Members, Dr. Dinesh Kumar secured Gold, Prof. Romesh Kumar won Silver and Dr. Pankaj Sharma secured Bronze.
The event was judged by Prof. Manmohan Singh, Prof. Eisha Gohil, Prof. Anice Ahmed, Prof. Nazakit Hussain, Dr. Puyesh Kant Sharma, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Prof. Parminder, Prof. Pankaj Dabgotra, Prof. Jatinder Lal, Kuldeep Singh and Radhey Sham.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Director of Physical Education and Sports, and Dr. Pankaj Sharma, HOD English. The teaching and non-teaching staff of the college actively participated in various capacities, contributing to the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pankaj Sharma, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, judges, participating students, faculty members and all staff members for their valuable contribution and enthusiastic support.
The event reinforced the message of “Fitness for All” and provided an encouraging platform for students and faculty members to demonstrate their endurance, determination and commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle.
