JAMMU, May 22: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) today met the Estates Director and raised serious concerns regarding the poor condition of government quarters allotted to employees.
The delegation was led by National Conference Provincial Joint Secretary JKNC Ankush Abrol included Zonal Co-ordinator and Secretary Central Zonal Dr. Vikas Sharma, Zonal Vice-President Rahul Mahajan, Randhir Singh and Rahul Gupta.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted that the condition of the government quarters is in a deplorable state and requires immediate attention.
They urged the Estates Director to ensure that all necessary repairs and improvements are carried out before the arrival of Secretariat employees under the Darbar Move.
The members further stressed that basic facilities should be upgraded so that employees shifting during the Darbar Move do not face hardships. They emphasized that the government must provide safe, hygienic and well-maintained accommodation to its employees.
The delegation also raised concerns over the alleged “pick and choose” policy previously adopted in the allotment of quarters.
They demanded transparency in the process and urged the department to review the allotments to ensure that only eligible individuals are provided government accommodation.
Responding to the concerns, the Estates Director assured the delegation that necessary steps will be taken to improve the condition of the quarters. He further stated that no illegal practices will be tolerated under his supervision and that efforts will be made to bring transparency and fairness in the allotment process.
The delegation expressed hope that the issues raised will be addressed promptly in the larger interest of government employees.
