JAMMU, Aug 15: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the Sahib Bandgi Ashram in Ranjri, Jammu, where devotees and followers gathered to mark the national occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Madhu Param Hans Ji Maharaj, spiritual head of the Sahib Bandgi sect, highlighted the importance of preserving the country’s cultural heritage and fulfilling civic responsibilities. He said that the culture of a nation is its soul and described India’s cultural heritage as exemplary, noting that foreign invaders had made repeated attempts to weaken and eradicate it.
He emphasised that every citizen has a responsibility towards the nation and said that the identity and strength of a country are ultimately reflected through its people. According to him, a nation cannot be defined merely by its mountains, land or geographical boundaries; its true identity lies in the citizens who inhabit it.
Speaking on the meaning of national greatness, Madhu Param Hans Ji Maharaj said that a country could not become great through words alone. He stressed that a nation becomes truly strong and developed when its citizens are happy, prosperous, educated and secure.
He further said that the real measure of a great nation is whether its people receive justice, food, clean water, security, education and healthcare, and whether they can live without fear. These basic necessities, he maintained, are essential for ensuring dignity and a better quality of life for every citizen.
Calling for greater awareness of civic duties, he said that responsibility towards the nation should not be considered the sole responsibility of politicians or the government. Every citizen must actively think about the welfare and progress of the country and contribute towards nation-building.
He also underlined the importance of education and awareness, urging citizens to become conscious of both their rights and duties. He said that an educated, responsible and morally conscious citizenry is essential for building a strong, prosperous and harmonious India.
The Independence Day programme concluded with a renewed call for citizens to work collectively for national unity, social harmony and the overall progress of the country.
