KARGIL, Jul 25: The healthcare sector has witnessed significant progress through improved infrastructure, enhanced specialist services, and the expansion of quality medical care to peripheral and remote health institutions.
As part of this transformation, Community Health Centre Sankoo is now routinely conducting Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS) surgeries, marking a major step forward in strengthening maternal and newborn healthcare services in the Sankoo Sub-Division of Kargil
The surgeries were performed by Dr. Rubiya Banoo, Consultant Gynaecologist & Obstetrician, with anaesthesia provided by Dr. Asif, Senior Consultant Anaesthetist, QAAM District Hospital, Kargil, along with the dedicated operation theatre team.
Following each successful delivery, Dr. Iftikhar Ali, Consultant Paediatrician, CHC Sankoo, examined the newborns and declared them healthy.
He also provided hands-on guidance and training to the nursing staff on essential newborn care and safe handling of neonates, further strengthening the quality of neonatal services at the centre.
The availability of routine LSCS services at the block level has significantly improved access to comprehensive maternal healthcare, particularly benefiting women from remote and far-flung areas of the Suru Valley who previously had to travel long distances to avail such specialised services.
In addition to emergency and operative obstetric care, CHC Sankoo is now providing regular gynaecology outpatient services.
A comprehensive range of women’s healthcare services, including antenatal care, postnatal care, family planning, high-risk pregnancy management, and treatment of common gynaecological conditions, is being offered on a routine basis.
These achievements reflect the continued strengthening of healthcare services at Community Health Centre Sankoo and demonstrate the commitment of the Health Department, Union Territory of Ladakh, to providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare at the grassroots level.
