REASI, May 15: The Indian Army conducted a Gujjar and Bakkarwal Meet at Dharmari, Reasi. The aim of the event was to strengthen bonds with the Awam, address issues faced by the Gujjar and Bakkarwal community during the ongoing seasonal movement and reaffirm the Indian Army’s commitment towards their welfare, safety and continued support.
The event commenced with an inaugural address by Indian Army officials, followed by interaction with local community representatives. A total of 31 members of the Gujjar and Bakkarwal community attended the meeting. During the informal interaction, the villagers appreciated the efforts of the Indian Army in supporting the community and assured their continued cooperation in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The community highlighted concerns related to movement routes, safety, medical facilities, women’s health, children’s education, mobile network connectivity and other logistical challenges faced in the higher reaches. Issues regarding medical assistance for the community and livestock during the season along with the need for regular medical camps, were also discussed.
The villagers further requested frequent skill development programmes for youth and assistance in training wards of the Gujjar and Bakkarwal community for employment opportunities in the Territorial Army and as porters. The Indian Army assured proactive coordination with relevant stakeholders for early resolution of the issues and reiterated its commitment to stand with the community at all times.
