ANANTNAG, May 13: In a major boost to power infrastructure and employment generation in South Kashmir, the 3 MW Mini Hydel Power Project at Dessu-Duksum in Anantnag is nearing completion, with officials stating that nearly 95 percent of the work has already been completed.
The project was allotted in May 2025 by the Science and Technology Department to Kashmir Valley Energy Private Limited. With an estimated DPR cost of ₹38.42 crore, the project marks the company’s eighth venture in Jammu and Kashmir and its first major project in the Kashmir Valley.
Officials associated with the project said that the civil construction and building works have been completed almost entirely, while installation and erection of machinery are currently underway at full pace. They expressed hope that the remaining mechanical work would be completed within the next one to two months.
Once commissioned, the mini hydel project is expected to provide electricity benefits to nearly 3,500 households in the region, significantly improving power supply in remote areas of Dooru and adjoining localities.
Speaking to our correspondent at the project site, one of the workers said that developmental projects of this nature are essential for tackling unemployment in far-flung areas. He stated that more than 100 local youths have been provided employment opportunities during the construction phase over the last two years.
A company employee further informed that apart from strengthening electricity infrastructure, the project is also expected to open doors for long-term employment and contribute to the economic growth of the area.
Locals have welcomed the project and termed it a significant developmental initiative for the region, expressing hope that it will not only improve electricity availability but also create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the youth.
