Reasi Police arrest drug peddler, recover heroin near SMVDU Katra

REASI, May 13: As part of the ongoing drive against drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Reasi Police achieved another success by apprehending an alleged drug peddler and recovering heroin-like contraband substance from his possession.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Mukund Tibrewal.

According to police officials, on June 11, 2026, a police party from Police Station Katra established a naka checking point near Gate No. 1 of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.

During checking, one person identified as Surinder Kumar, son of Late Munshi Ram and resident of Kandyar, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi, travelling in an auto bearing registration number JK20C-2016 from Sool towards Kotla, was intercepted for search.

Police said that during the search operation, approximately 5.55 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. The accused was immediately taken into custody and the contraband substance was seized following legal formalities.

In this connection, FIR No. 144/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation has been initiated.

The operation was led by Ranjeet Singh Rao under the close supervision of Bhishm Dubey and Kameshwar Puri.

Reasi Police reiterated its commitment towards eliminating the menace of drugs from society and appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to narcotics trafficking and drug peddling activities in their respective areas.
