SRINAGAR, Jul 1: President of Mission Statehood, Sunil Dimple, called on Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhary at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar on Tuesday and discussed a wide range of issues concerning the Jammu region, including development, unemployment, and the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
Dimple, who is currently in Kashmir to chalk out a united strategy for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and to highlight the concerns of unemployed youth, urged the Deputy Chief Minister to address the developmental challenges facing the Jammu region.
During the meeting, Dimple demanded the immediate regularisation of all daily wagers and sought government employment for land donors in a time-bound manner during the 2026–27 financial year. He also called for the filling of all vacant posts in departments under the Deputy Chief Minister’s charge.
He urged the government to issue advertisements for vacant posts, particularly for Junior Engineers (Civil and Mechanical), and expedite recruitment in the Public Works Department (PWD), Public Health Engineering (PHE), Irrigation and other government departments. Dimple further demanded fast-track recruitment against the nearly 40,000 government posts announced by the Chief Minister during the Budget Session, stating that these vacancies should be filled within the current year.
The Mission Statehood president also pressed for the early regularisation of NYC workers, Rehbar-e-Khel (ReK) employees and thousands of physical education teachers and lecturers. He additionally raised the issue of restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and discussed matters related to Article 370.
Responding to the demands, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhary assured Dimple that the government is committed to providing major relief to educated and meritorious youth through accelerated recruitment and employment measures. He said the government is actively working towards the regularisation of daily wagers and addressing the concerns of land donors while expediting recruitment against thousands of announced vacancies.
Chowdhary also stated that recruitment of Junior Engineers in the Civil and Mechanical streams would be taken up and noted that appointment letters had recently been issued to Junior Engineers in the PWD in the presence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The Deputy Chief Minister further informed Dimple that the Chief Minister has announced that MLAs would stage a protest at Jantar Mantar during the upcoming Monsoon Session to press for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
Several Members of the Legislative Assembly were also present during the meeting between Sunil Dimple and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhary.
