JAMMU, Mar 27: United Democratic Alliance (UDA), convenor Rajiv Mahajan today urged the government to waive off power tariff of the weaker sections of the society and reintroduce amnesty scheme for the rest of the people to streamline the power revenue collection in the Jammu region.
By waiving of full interest and penalty to weaker sections of society will go a long way in earning the goodwill of such sections of the people towards the government, Mahajan said in a statement here.
People, especially the weaker sections , have suffered a lot economically during the pandemic period and may not be able to pay their power tariff, he said, adding as such the people’s oriented government must take this measures of waiving off their power tariff.
The government should also consider amnesty for the people whose bills are pending , Mahajan said.
He recalled that former governor of J&K Girish Chander Murmu had already implemented this scheme of giving amnesty to people in February 2020 and the present dispensation can consider this scheme as well.
“instead of charging interest and penalty on actual bill, the government should waive off this condition and take the actual payment from those who have to pay arrears. These payments may also be considered on the basis of installments to lessen the burden on the consumers”, the UDA Convenor said.
