Traffic to ply from Srinagar to Jammu on Kashmir highway

SRINAGAR, Feb 2 (Agencies): One-way traffic on Sunday would ply from Srinagar to Jammu after two days on 280-km-long National Highway, which connects Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
Down convoy was allowed on Kashmir highway after allowing traffic from Jammu to Srinagar for two days.
”Only one-way traffic will continue to ply on the highway till further orders and today vehicles are to ply from Srinagar to Jammu,” a traffic police official said.
However, he said Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) could cross the Jawahar tunnel till 1300 hrs. ”Hundreds of vehicles, including trucks loaded with fruit, empty oil and LPG tankers, which were stranded on this side of the Jawahar tunnel, were also allowed to move towards Jammu,” he added.
Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was suspended for several hours on Friday following an encounter between militants and security forces at Nagrota in Jammu and slippery road conditions on both sides of the Jawahar tunnel. Three militants were killed and a police constable was injured in the encounter.
The 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh National Highway, the only road connecting Union Territory (UT) Ladakh with Kashmir, and 98-km-long Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, and Anantnag-Kishtwar road remained closed since two months. These roads were likely to reopen in April-May.
