SRINAGAR, Nov 9 (Agencies): Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Abdur Rahim Rather, on Friday, said that although the Assembly session lasted only five days, it witnessed three major events: the Speaker’s election without a single dissenting vote, the mention of the restoration of constitutional guarantees in the Lieutenant Governor’s address, and the passage of a historic resolution on special status.
“The session was brief, lasting only five days, but three significant developments occurred. First, the House saw the Speaker’s election take place without a single dissenting vote,” Speaker Rather told the House before adjourning the Legislative Assembly Sine-Die.
He added that the second major development was the mention of the restoration of constitutional guarantees in the Lieutenant Governor’s address. “The mention was clear and unambiguous, and the restoration of constitutional guarantees is a major development,” Rather stated.
The Speaker also highlighted the third historic event, the passage of a resolution in the House seeking the restoration of special status. “This has had a significant impact. We are receiving positive feedback from the public, and they are feeling relieved,” Rather remarked.
He further said that he would raise the issue of organising a workshop for first-time MLAs with the Lok Sabha Secretariat. “I am hopeful that the workshop will be held in Jammu,” said the Speaker.
After thanking all members of the House, the Speaker adjourned the House Sine-Die.
