Renowned Kashmiri actor and Sangeet Natak awardee Mushtaq Kak passes away

JAMMU / SRINAGAR, Nov 19 (Agencies): Renowned artist and Sangeet Natak awardee Mushtaq Ahmed Kak died after a prolonged illness.

Kak’s friends informed that his condition had been deteriorating for some time and was treated several times in different hospitals of Srinagar and Jammu and he passed away last night.

People from all walks of life including those associated with film, television and stage have expressed grief and sorrow over his death.

Kak a famous Actor and Director was born in the year 1961. At Jammu he started his acting career and then established his own theatre group.

For his tremendous contribution he has received a number of awards besides Sangeet Natak Academy Award. He was associated with Ram Centre, New Delhi as the artistic director.

He has also received the best director award for Andha Yug, Malika, and Pratibimb. Of his plays, Maha Brahmin and Alladad were adjudged best plays for the years 1999 and 2000, respectively.

His production “Andorra” with Kartik Chaudhry as Pyder was a big hit. He Directed more than 100 plays all from different writers. Few of them are short stories by Saadat Hasan Mantos, Anton Chekhov’s Cheery ka bagicha, Vijay Tendulkar’s ghansi ram kotwal, Krishan Chander’s Gadhe Ke Wapsi, Sharad Joshi’s Alladad, Vasant Kanetkar’s Kasturi Mrig, Moti Lal Kemmo’s Nagar Udaas, Federico Garcia’s.
