Balvinder said that the J&K Government announced the abolition of toll posts, including at Lakhanpur and all other posts including at Railway Station and Airports with effect from January 1, 2020 but generally it is seen that most of the traders of cement, edible oil and other goods whose MRP should have been reduced with effect from January 1, 2020 and traders must pass on the cost reduction benefits to the consumers, but they are not doing so.
Singh appreciated the Legal Metrology Department whose team on January 15 raided the premises of CFA’s of Ambuja Cement Ltd at Kunjwani, ACC Ltd at Narwal and JK Wall Putty at Trikuta Nagar Extension and imposed fine of Rs. 50,000 on each company for not passing on the benefit of Rs 64 per bag of 50 Kg of cement by lowering the MRP.
The teams also inspected the company outlets of P Mark Edible oil at Ware House at Bikram Chowk.
Balvinder urged upon the UT Administration of JK and especially to LG Jb Girish Chandra MURMU to kindly intervene & direct the Excise department and other concerned departments to put it in public domain the comparative cost (MRP) of all the items before the abolition of Toll tax and their reduced price (MRP) after the abolition of toll tax, both in print and electronic media so that general public must know the actual benefit they are supposed to get after the toll tax abolition and the tax reduction price benefit of Rs 1500 crores must pass on to the ultimate consumers.
Singh also urged upon the Excise Department to constitute different teams for the inspection of various Godowns and retailers to put a check on them so that they should not deceive the consumers and pass on the cost reduction benefit to them as per actual. The teams must check whether the MRP has been reduced by the traders or not.
