‘Pratham Pooja’ of Shri Amarnath performed in Jammu amid COVID-19

JAMMU, Jun 5: To mark the beginning of this year’s annual Amarnath Yatra, a ‘Pratham Pooja’ for the pilgrimage was performed on Friday morning on the occasion of Jayesth Purnima at Shri Chaitaniya Ashram, Talab Tillo, here.
Amidst Vedic Mantras and Havan, the Pooja was jointly organized by Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and Baba Amarnath and Buda Amarnath Yatri Niyas.
“Today’s event marked the beginning of this year’s Yatra,” VHP, working president, Rajesh Gupta, who was present on the occasion said.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the venue was changed this year from Chandenwari, Kashmir to Chaitanya Ashram, Jammu. All the rituals were performed by adopting SOP such as social distancing etc.
Speaking to media, CEO of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, Bipul Pathak, who was also present in the Pooja ceremony, said, “The first pooja of Shri Amarnath was conducted today. It is performed every year. We have not taken any decision on starting the Amarnath Yatra so far due to COVID-19 pandemic.”
He, however, added that the administration will decide on the Yatra after assessing the COVID-19 situation and will make all arrangements accordingly.
Besides Vipul Pathak, Anup Kumar Soni, Addl. CEO SASB & Baba Yatri Niyas represented by Pawan Kumar Kohli President, Karan Singh Charak and Sudershan Khajuria General Secretary along with Rajesh Gupta Working President VHP J&K were present in the Pooja.
