NPP protests outside DSEJ alleging massive irregularities in Education Department

JAMMU, Jun 11: Peeved over alleged malpractices and bunglings in transfers, postings, attachments, adjustments and promotions in Education Department, the activists of NPP led by Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman-JKNPP & former Minister held a protest demonstration outside the office of Director School Education Jammu today.
The protestors carrying placards in their hands held a silent protest seeking the review of all transfers made in violation of norms besides cancellation of all attachments of teaching staff made in various offices across Jammu region.
The protestors called for a statement from the Advisor as well as the Secretary Education over the pathetic scenario in Education sector which suffered immense damage due to rampant corruption.
They called upon the Director to explain the reasons for large scale attachments in DSEJ including these of teaching and non teaching staff with all the attached employees being paid HRA despite their substantive postings being outside the limits of Municipal Corporation Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, Harsh said that thousands of attachments of teaching staff had been made in the past to confer undue benefits upon favourities and other blue eyed teachers at the cost of academic activity in various government schools.
“The transfers and postings were being made on pick and choose basis without any regard for the prescribed norms and guidelines. The transfers and attachments made recently amply revealed the whimsical approach of authorities concerned with hardly any regard for stipulated criteria. Similarly the transfers of masters and teachers had been made in the past few months in the most arbitrary and partisan manner by giving a dawn to the transfer policy so loudly trumpeted by the government. Even in promotions of teaching as well as non teaching staff there were several irregularities with eligible candidates having been superseded by their juniors. The promotions to the posts of Junior Assistants were also made on pick and choose by denying to honour to DPC recommendations of District Udhampur. The 550 subject specific teachers appointed under SMAGRA had been terminated in the most arbitrary manner. Likewise the issue of contractual teachers had not been addressed despite several assurances given by the government for their continuation. The 5000 candidates appointed under Sakshar Bharat Mission faced an uncertain future with government failing to clarify its stand over their future. The government had even failed to clarify its stand with regard to mass promotions or otherwise of students who were suffering acute stress due to prevalent uncertainly. Timely release of salaries of teachers was another issue which had failed to receive the due attention the authorities concerned”, asserted Harsh.
He added that during his tenure as Education Minister he did not allow even a single attachment which had received widespread appreciation from all over the State. He said that corruption in education sector was unacceptable and would be fought against tooth and nail.
Singh said that there were several issues which had failed to elicit appropriate response from authorities concerned thus forcing the NPP to hold a protest outside the office of Director School Education.
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Gagan Partap Singh, Kulbushan Attri, Partap Singh besides others.
