LG Ladakh discusses measures for upgradation of health infra in Kargil

KARGIL, Feb 1 (Agencies): Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh UT R K Mathur along with the CEC, Kargil, DC Kargil and other officers concerned visited District Hospital Kargil (DHK) and took stock of its overall functioning besides medicare facilities available to patients. He visited different sections of the hospital like the Casualty Block, wards and other sections and while interacting with the patients and attendants inquired about the facilities available to them in the health institution.
LG also took stock of ongoing restoration works on the 3rd storey of the Trauma Unit of DHK which had suffered severe damages during a fire incident in December last year. The officers concerned informed the LG that necessary civil works for restoration including the construction of iron roof truss are presently underway and now funds are required for replacement of damaged machines as well as purchase of fresh machinery and equipments for eye, ortho, gynaecology and other sections ti improve health care.
The LG also took brief from the officers about various short term and long term requirements of District Hospital and said issues like restoration of damaged equipments and appointment of as many doctors possible on contractual basis would be accorded top priority. He also said that all genuine problems brought out by Specialists, Medical Officers, Paramedics and Contractual staff would be given due consideration and for resolution. With regard to long term measures for strengthening of health sector in Kargil district, LG said that provision of budget has already been kept for up gradation of 200 bedded hospital at Kurbathang to a 300 bedded hospital which would pave way for establishment of a medical college along with the hospital in the district.
This he said in future will prove instrumental in producing qualified doctors and health specialists from the district itself which will address the shortage of doctors in the long run. He also held meetings with the the CEC and the Executive Councilors of LAHDC, Kargil, DC Kargil and SSP Kargil and the district officers. Number of issues with regard to the present status of on going developmental activities in Kargil district and future developmental plans came up for thorough discussion during the meetings. A number of delegations including the Panchayat Association Kargil, District Congress Committee Kargil, BJP Yuva Morcha Kargil, delegations from Shakar Chiktan and Sankoo Sub Divisions and Sarpanch Halqa Parkachik, Contractors Association Kargil and other delegations met the LG Ladakh and submitted their grievances and demands for redressal. LG gave a patient hearing to all demands and grievances projected by the delegations and assured them of suitable consideration as per merit.
