India-China clash: Modi calls for all-party meeting on Friday

NEW DELHI, Jun 17 (Agencies): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for an all-party meeting on Friday to discuss the situation in the “India-China border areas”.
The Twitter handle of the Prime Minister’s Office tweeted on Wednesday “In order to discuss the situation in the India-China border areas, Prime Minister @narendramodi has called for an all-party meeting at 5 PM on 19th June. Presidents of various political parties would take part in this virtual meeting.”
The statement came amid mounting criticism of the Modi government’s lack of comment on the fatal clash at Galwan in Ladakh on Monday that left at least 20 Indian Army personnel dead. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh issued the first response of the Modi government on the situation earlier on Wednesday, tweeting that the deaths of soldiers were “deeply disturbing and painful”.
