Govt orders imposition of additional excise duty (50% on MRP) on liquor in J&K

JAMMU, May 17: J&K Government ordered imposition of additional excise duty (50 per cent on MRP) on liquor in the Union Territory.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 16 of the Jammu and Kashmir Excise Act, Svt, 1958, and in partial modification of SRO 128 dated 25.02.2019, read with SO 112 dated 27.03.2020, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir hereby direct that there shall be levied an Additional Retail Excise Duty on the sale of the various kinds of liquor in the Union Territory of J&K.
Government has enhanced 50 per cent duty on MRP on IMFL/IFL; JK Special Whisky; Beer/ RTD and Wine Cider,” an order issued by the Finance Department of J&K Union Territory said.
