Warns to expose corrupt officials
JAMMU, Nov 1: Shri Ram Sena (SRS) today expressed great disappointment against the present dispensation for its failure to eradicate corruption in the Union Territory.
Addressing a press conference here, the President of SRS Rajiv Mahajan said that the Lt Governor, while speaking at the inaugural function of the Vigilance Awareness Week, committed to build a corruption-free Jammu and Kashmir with a promise that no one indulging in corrupt practices will be spared.
Mahajan apprised the Lt Governor that the corruption is at its peak in Jammu and Kashmir. “Corruption has achieved new heights in the present dispensation and there is no curative or reformative action available in the system with the rulers busy in their own fancies,” he added.
Mahajan alleged that corruption has been ten times more now in Jammu and Kashmir in comparison before scrapping of Article 370 from the erstwhile state.
He mentioned that a sand trolley which was costing Rs 1000 about three years ago is costing Rs 4000 at present. Revenue Department is the live example. The Patwaris who were the backbone of this department are not ready to take promotions as they did not want to lose their position.
“Patwaris have a monopoly in the Revenue Department,” he said, adding that they have fixed their rates for making any revenue document in the department and they justify that the bribe amount has to be disbursed at the upper level.
SRS President asked the Lt Governor that how he would eradicate the menace of corruption from the Revenue Department.
He suggested the Lt Governor that instead of running Vigilance Awareness for a Week, the same Vigilance Awareness programme should run throughout the year by deputing the vigilance officers in every department, aiming to root out the corruption from the government departments.
Mahajan emphasized that the corruption is also the root cause of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. If government succeeds in eradicating corruption, then the goal of terrorism free J&K will not so far, he added.
Mahajan said that Hon’ble Lt Governor Manoj Sinha is heading the Union Territory for the last two years but it’s unfortunate to say that he himself failed to control his own departments.
He alleged that there are some officials who are promoting corruption in the government departments of Jammu and Kashmir. He warned them such officials to shun the path of corruption in month’s time failing which he will expose all such officials in front of media.
Mahajan appealed to the Lt Governor to take serious note of rampant corruption in the Union Territory so that people, who are suffering from this menace of would have a sigh of relief.
Among others who were present in the press conference include Shubam, Sanjay and Vijay.
