Coronavirus: J&K SSP goes into self-isolation after mother-in-law tests positive

SRINAGAR, Mar 20 (Agencies): A J&K Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has gone into self-isolation in Srinagar after his mother-in-law become the first person to be tested positive for coronavirus in Kashmir valley.
However, a report published in local media alleged that the woman had ‘escaped mandatory quarantine on arrival from Saudi Arabia as she walked out of Srinagar International Airport after her influential relative intervened’.
SSP Imtiyaz Hussian Parray said although he had no direct contact with his mother-in-law, he has decided to go into self-isolation and urged people to leave nothing to chance.
”Updating all well wishers…mother in law doing well at SKIMS. Rest of my family also following necessary protocol..Although no direct contact was made yet I am also going into isolation…urge all to leave nothing to chance and follow government directives strictly,” Mr Parray wrote on his micro-blogging site twitter.
The decision of the police officer was hailed by many. Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary said he was proud of Mr Parray. ”Proud of you @imtiazismailp sb (sahab),” he wrote on twitter. Similar, views were expressed by others twitter users.
As many as 21 medical teams on Thursday held house-to-house inspections and collected data in and around the area in which the woman lives in Khanayar in downtown Srinagar.
Chaudhary said that strict restrictions would be imposed on Friday on public gatherings, assembly and movement in Srinagar. ”No public movement or activity will be allowed anywhere in the district. Only government officials with valid IDs will be allowed to move,” he said.
He said agencies concerned have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of restrictions across the district. ”Strict action will be taken against violators of the order. Government officials have been asked to ensure no one is found ferried in their vehicles,” he added.
